FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Mary Stenberg, CHA Board Member [email protected] 715-746-2139 CHA Celebrates Going Solar By Mary Stenberg, CHA Board Member The Chequamegon Humane Association began generating electricity using the power of the sun for their Shelter facility on July 6, 2023. Jolma Electric of Ashland served as contractor for the project with installation of 28 bi-facial solar panels and all of the wiring and necessary operating system equipment being completed during the month of June. A state inspection of the new 15.2 kilowatt system was completed on June 16 and Xcel Energy commissioned the solar power system on July 5, 2023. On August 24, friends, supporters and interested community members gathered at the CHA Animal Shelter to celebrate. The Chequamegon Humane Association received a grant to help with the costs of the solar system from RENEW Wisconsin’s Solar for Good initiative. Additionally, a rebate from Focus on Energy has been received and CHA will apply for the tax incentive credit from the Federal Direct Pay program in April 2024. Community supporters donated approximately $17,000 of additional funding that was needed to fully cover the $37,000 cost of the solar project. For over 40 years the Chequamegon Humane Association has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless pets. The new facility at 923 Rail Drive allows CHA help nearly 1000 animals per year and run more programs that benefit the community like the low-cost spay/neuter program for low-income pet owners, a pet food pantry, and low cost adoptions for senior citizens. CHA is always looking for ways to save money and do more with the budget they have. CHA’s budget comes almost exclusively from donations and community fundraisers. The solar power system will save the Chequamegon Humane Association approximately $2735 per year in utility costs. Those savings can then be used to offset the costs of health and wellness services required for the animals that are rescued and surrendered. Other ways to support CHAOur mission to care for animals is made possible by friends like you. To donate now, please select the donate button and indicate the amount you will like to donate. You can also make your donation a monthly one by checking the "Make this a monthly donation" box. No amount is too great or too small. If you would like your donation to be earmarked for a specific item (e.g. Sponsor a kennel cat or dog, fund a spay/neuter, or something else, indicate so at the time of your donation. Here are some ideas for specific donations:

LEAVE A LEGACY
BEQUESTS
A bequest is a gift of money, stocks, bonds, jewelry, or other personal property that's given through a will., trust or beneficiary designation form. A bequest is one of the most generous ways to make a significant contribution to the Chequamegon Humane Association and its mission. Bequests come in many forms.

Specific Bequests – Names a specific sum of money or a specific asset to be gifted.
- Contingency Bequests – Provide for the gift only after a certain event has occurred, for example, CHA might be designated to receive a certain bequest if the bequeather's spouse is no longer alive
- Residual Bequests - Leave to the recipient everything that remains in an estate after other bequests have been made and various expenses and claims have been paid.
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION GIFTS
When preparing a will, life insurance policy, or retirement account, you designate an individual or organization, known as the beneficiary, to receive the benefits or proceeds when you pass away. Did you know you can designate CHA as a direct beneficiary of other assets? Among these are qualified retirement plans, IRAs, life insurance policies, and revocable and irrevocable trusts. You could also name CHA as a direct beneficiary of your taxable investment accounts or bank accounts through a “transfer on death” (TOD) assignment.
To name CHA as one of your primary or contingent beneficiaries in your life insurance policy or retirement or investment account, please consult your financial professional where your accounts are held.

Animal Assisted Therapy
Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is the use of animal interactions with patients to aid recovery from health problems or to help people cope with certain medical conditions. Those medical providers and therapists who support AAT believe it has many benefits such as helping with personal and social development, increased self-esteem, improved mental health, better social skills, and increased empathy and nurturing skills.
Some forms of AAT involve caring for animals, such as feeding, grooming, and bathing the animals, on a regular basis. Other forms of AAT include an animal being brought to a care facility for patient interaction. For example, ATD’s volunteers bring their therapy dogs to rehabilitation centers, hospice facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities to visit and interact with those in need of comfort.

We need people to help us soliciting donations, helping with set-up of events, selling tickets and even organizing events. We are always open to new ideas that will help us raise funds for the shelter.

FOSTER
It takes a very special person to open their heart and home to an animal temporarily. If you think you are that special hero, then fostering might be for you. Fostering an animal can be a rewarding experience.
At CHA, most of our fosters are animals who are not quite ready to go to their permanent homes just yet like pregnant dogs or cats, kittens and puppies who are still to young to be spayed or neutered.
Growing up in a loving home environment, being socialized with people is better for the animals than growing up in a shelter. For families with children, it is a wonderful opportunity for children to be exposed to animals and interact with them. With Spring coming with full force, we will soon be in need of foster homes for pregnant moms, kittens and even dogs and puppies! You provide the safe loving environment we provide all the medical, food and supplies needed to care for them.
If you're interested in becoming a foster, please fill out an application now.
