Animal Care Attendant
30hrs a Week, flexibility a must! $11.00/hr starting wage
Shelter staffing times and shifts:
7am-1pm and 1pm-7pm shifts 7 days a week
Job Description:
The Animal Care Attendant is responsible for the overall care of all the animals within the shelter. The responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the shelter.
Duties will include:
• To observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.
• To thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas of the shelter as often as is necessary.
• To determine the type and amount of food animals receive.
• To take charge and/or handle animals as required and to restrain hard to control animals.
• To walk dogs several times a day to provide exercise and time for elimination of bowels and bladder.
• To perform needed cleaning and maintenance of all equipment and tools used in job assignments.
Job Summary:
• Under direction of the Animal Care Supervisor, provides for the constant cleanliness of cages, runs and shelter areas and the proper feeding and care of all shelter animals.
Major Duties:
• Follow the shelter procedures.
• Unpacking, labeling and stocking of shelter supplies and donations
• Make sure animals are clean and smell fresh.
• Recognize and records any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any shelter animal.
• Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to medical coordinator/CVT.
• Receive animals to be admitted for shelter care and is responsible for labeling cage cards with proper information.
• Assist Veterinary Technician with the administration of medications, vaccinations, etc. with proper restraint.
• Administer temperament evaluations for dogs (training provided).
• Cleans and sanitizes all cages, runs, and related areas.
• Wash and dry towels and blankets.
• Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
• Perform general cleaning.
• Empty trash, wash floors.
• Patrol shelter grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material.
• Maintain equipment used to complete job assignments and keeping such equipment and tools in good working condition. Do minor repairs on such equipment as needed and notifying management as to major repairs needed or new equipment necessary to adequately complete assignments. Keep equipment and tools put away in proper storage areas.
Shelter Specific Duties:
• Monitor behavior and work with trainers
• Assist with adoptions
• Assist with outreach events at the adoption facility and out in the community.
Experience: Previous experience in animal care environment preferred, BUT NOT REQUIRED will train right enthusiastic person :)

Lead Kennel Staff Supervisor

Position Responsibilities:
- Generate a monthly schedule for staff.
- Help solicit for new shelter staff employees.
- Fill in kennel shifts as needed.
- Ensure animals have cage cards on kennels, with correct information listed.
- Ensure animals have updated pictures listed in Shelter Manager
- Ensure that animals are dogs and cats tested before adoption.
- Evaluate animals for potential behavioral issues and notify Executive Director or Medical Coordinator as needed
- Notify Medical Coordinator of health issues of animals.
- Assist Medical Coordinator with after-hour emergency intakes and animal care as needed.
- Behavior modification and enrichment activities for animals while at CHA
- Assist the Medical Coordinator with medical tasks and transportation to vet.
- Train new employees on shelter cleaning protocol and general shelter operations
- Cleaning and maintaining animal areas, ensure staff workers are following procedures.
- Ensure every animal’s grooming needs are kept up regularly (nails trimmed, ears cleaned, mats cut) Train volunteers to do if possible.
- Maintain equipment throughout shelter.
- Train staff on use of safety equipment
- Assist with spay/neuter clinics.
- Update animal biographies, Cat/dog test animals ready for adoption
- Assist with social media posts.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting of animals and equipment of more than 50 pounds.
- Grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination.
- Driving a car.
Position Qualifications:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computing skills, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and email.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to:
- work independently and as part of a team.

- Maintain accurate records.
