BARN CAT PROGRAM
What is a barn cat?
Any time a social cat comes to us, they go right into our adoption program to find a home. There are some cats who are simply fearful of new situations, and they too go into our adoption program in search of patient adopters. Then there are the cats who are deeply under-socialized, truly want nothing to do with people, and they get extremely stressed when confined; those are our working cats (also known as "barn cats"). These cats cannot be house pets but thrive in a "working" environment where they can patrol a barn, stable, outbuilding, shed, or even a warehouse. They get to live a fulfilling life with a family who cares for them, and you get a rodent-free property!
What do we provide?
All barn cats adopted through CHA will have the following taken care of prior to adoption:
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Ear-tipping
- Vaccinations
How does the Barn Buddy Program work?
When a feral or semi-feral cat comes to CHA, we place them into our Barn Buddies program.
Adopter's looking for a Barn Cat can fill out our Barn Cat Application. The application is located at the bottom of the page.
When a cat enters our Barn Buddies program we call applications on file in the order in which they were received until an application agrees to adopt the barn cat. Cat's in this program will be places on a first come first serve basis.
If you chose to pass on a particular cat, your application will remain in line. If you are no longer in need of a barn cat, we ask that you let us know so your application can be removed from the program.
The fee to adopt a barn cat is $25.
Barn cat applications stay on file for one year.
Please note that approval of the Barn Cat application does not automatically approve you for adoption of our social/non-working cats. If you are looking to adopt a cat as a companion, please fill out the Cat Application under the Adopt tab at the top of the page.
