Meet the Staff

Shelter Manager

My name is Audrey Weaver and I have worked for the CHA since 2004 when I began as a volunteer walking dogs. Shortly thereafter I was hired as a member of the kennel staff and in October of 2005 served as an Assistant Manager. As of August 2006, I have taken the Shelter Manager position and am thrilled to continue to be involved with the organization. Originally from St. Paul, MN, I graduated from Northland College in May of 2006 with bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology with an animal behavior emphasis. I look forward to the challenges ahead as we all work to improve our local shelter in promoting and supporting the humane treatment of animals in the Chequamegon Bay Area.

Staff

Lisa Zar is always willing to go the extra mile around the shelter and on her own time. She has fostered several litters of kittens and one litter of orphaned puppies that needed around the clock feedings for weeks. Lisa ended up adopting one of the puppies, her name is Siena. Lisa is also a veterinary assistant at Bay Area Animal Hospital in Ashland.

Devon Cohen started at CHA in December of 2007, and since the winter of 2009 has stepped into the new role of Assistant Manager at the shelter.. A Northland College graduate with a love for animals, her compassion is apparent in all that she does. Devon encourages others to get involved and is responsible for recruiting many of her friends as volunteers. She currently has one cat at home.

Melanie Olivo has been a CHA employee since spring of 2008. Melanie was born and raised in Ashland and has a great love for animals. She is especially fond of cats and has one CHA cat at home.

Francesca Pascale started at CHA in December of 2008. She has a big heart for the shelter animals. Francesca is currently a student at Northland College and looks forward to moving into a new house where she can have a pet from CHA.

Janelle Ulysses joined the CHA staff in March of 2009. She is very handy and has already done wonders to improve the shelter facility by installing replacement lights and painting. Janelle loves critters of all sorts and has dogs, cats and peacocks at her home near Ashland.

Bridgette Martinez joined the CHA staff in the Fall of 2009, and has been a valuable member of the team. As a pre-vet major, Bridgette has lots of experience and compassion with animals, and has done great work with training many of the often wily critters at the shelter. At home, she has a dog, a rabbit, and a snake.

Ben Hall has been with the CHA staff since the Fall of 2009. His patience and laid-back attitude are a great asset for working with the shelter animals, and he recently brought home a CHA dog for himself.
