promoting the humane treatment of animals in the Chequamegon Bay area

Don’t we all deserve a second chance?
The Chequamegon Humane Association (CHA) is a non-profit animal shelter that receives hundred of stray cats and dogs from Ashland and Bayfield county’s animal control every year. Most of these animals have great temperaments and
personalities, and are just yearning for a permanent, loving home. Adopting a pet from the Chequamegon Humane Association is a great (and economical) way to give a homeless animal a new leash on life, so to speak.

Every cat and dog that comes to the shelter receives the following medical attention before it is adopted:
• Examination
• Distemper Combination (2 series)
• Rabies Vaccine
• Parasite Control
• Feline Leukemia Test
• Canine Bordetella Vaccination
• Flea & Tick Prevention
• Spay (females)
• Neuter (males)

Our goal is to adopt healthy, well cared for animals into appropriate, loving homes. We strive to keep our adoption fees reasonable while still recovering a small portion of the medical expenses we incur.

The tax-deductible adoption fee is $75 for cats and kittens or $120 for dogs and puppies. If you were to take your pet to the local veterinarian for the same services, you would pay about three times these amounts. Adoption is an option that more families can afford!
